The Challenge

Ferris State University plays a unique role in Michigan’s educational landscape as the authorizer of more than 20 charter schools. With each school operating independently, there was a growing need to offer consistent, high-level support—particularly in marketing, enrollment, and communications. To help their schools thrive in a competitive environment, Ferris needed a partner that could listen, respond strategically, and deliver actionable insights.

The Goal

Establish a collaborative consulting model that would provide Ferris-authorized charter schools with the tools and knowledge they need to improve student recruitment, build stronger connections with families, and tell their stories more effectively. The approach had to be flexible, insightful, and tailored to the distinct needs of each school community.

The Approach

  • Through a series of three half-day strategy meetings, Galapagos worked closely with leadership teams from the charter schools, diving into their specific challenges and opportunities.

  • Before each session, school leaders shared their unique needs and questions, helping Galapagos prepare targeted guidance—from messaging clarity to audience targeting.

  • Each session served as a collaborative space for new ideas, practical frameworks, and marketing strategies schools could take back and immediately put into practice.

The Results

This partnership is still unfolding, but the early sessions have resulted in meaningful conversations and forward-thinking strategies. By providing hands-on support and real-world insights, Ferris and Galapagos are helping charter school leaders feel more confident and equipped to lead growth in their communities.
